    Default USA Shutting Down?

    Source: http://militaryadvantage.military.co...-held-hostage/

For weeks the DoD has been saying that military pay will likely be put on hold if the federal government shuts down. This seems odd to many of us since military pay has been exempt from government shutdowns over the past 30 years, including the big 21-day shutdown of 1995–1996. So why would they be willing to stop military pay this time?

Today the White House confirmed their intent to stop military pay if the budget impasse is not settled by April 8. So again, one has to ask, why are they so willing to dangle that threat, especially while our troops are in combat. It seems the best answer is the simplest answer – the administration is holding military pay hostage in an attempt to force congress to pass the FY 2011 budget.

What other reason would the Secretary of Defense have for hanging his own people out to dry? Why else would the Commander-in-Chief be willing to cause panic among the servicemembers and their families during time of war?

Call it political gamesmanship or hostage taking, either way the outcome of playing chicken with military pay is the same — panic — as servicemembers and their families fret over the prospect of not being able to pay their bills.

Turning the budget impasse into a hostage negotiation may work to break the stalemate, but the long term collateral damage will not be pretty. The mistrust and anger toward the DoD and White House for willingly putting military pay on the table will likely cost the leadership in political capitol.

Earlier this week, Rep. Gohmert (R-TX) introduced the Ensuring Pay for Our Military Act (H.R. 1297) which would protect military pay from the impact of the budget battle. The bill has bipartisan support and 160 co-sponsors. It appears that this bill may be the only way Congress can save military pay.

Enough is enough. It is time to contact your elected officials and tell them to either pass the 2011 budget or pass HR 1297.

So, it looks like we could be shutting down. Wow Obama is one hell of a president...NOT!!

Yeah, its BS. My Rep Justin Amash also put forward a bill to ensure the military gets paid as did Senator Rand Paul (his does other stuff as well including preventing the shut down for a short time).

it'll be interesting to see what happens.

I'm not sure I'd have the balls to tell the strongest/most advanced fighting force the world has ever seen that they won't be getting a paycheck, lol.

How do you figure strongest most advanced? I can assure you that is not close to true. Just ask people in the military. They will tell you its full of morons and highly unorganized. Our military are more like paper lions. Yeah, we come off all bad and this and that, but the reality is we have no chance is China and Russia team up. Do you think their armies are full of morons who have no idea what they are doing? I highly doubt that and I bet the organization is that of a well oiled machine. I think sadly we are ripe for the fall. We allowed our military to be dumbed down and spread out. Our entire country is full of morons. We began to become overconfident in our abilities just like civilizations of the past. But, I agree this will be very interesting. And its really nice to show weakness to the entire world after we spent all this time telling them how great we are and what we will do to them if they do not follow suite.

    strongest = numbers
    most advanced = technology
Even if you are retarded, you can still be an advanced/strong one.

hmh - lets take a look at some statistics:

    US Annual Military Budget:$663,000,000,000
    China Annual Military Budget: $98,000,000,000
    Russian Annual Military Budget: $61,000,000,000
    Combined China + Russia: $159,000,000,000
So US Spends $504,000,000,000 more than the two countries you site combined every year.

The US AirForce (which would be the most important factor in any major war between the US and Russia + China) has 3318 airplanes.
    Russia has 1900
    China has 1500
So they have slightly more air planes than our Air Force. Our Airforce is considered by everyone to be by far the most advanced (technology) in the world.

Please note that that's just the air force. The Navy has about the same number of planes as the AF. Looking at this page:
List of active United States military aircraft - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I got up around 10,000 planes in the US military before I was 3/4 the way done.

Note that those are ACTIVE planes. Take a gander at the 'grave yard' of planes which could be up and working again in very short order. This is in Arizona:

Our 'retired' airplanes make the worlds 3rd largest airforce.

Our Navy is the largest and most advanced in the world. In Fact, by tonnage, our Navy is larger than the next 13 combined.

I got tired of google at this point but the only way Russia/China would win in a conventional war is if we were trying to invade them. They could have us just on numbers there. If they were trying to attack us I'm not sure how they'd get their people over here with out our FAR superior Navy destroying them first, or if they failed our HUGE air Force which could destroy any approaching planes or ships. Or if those two things failed they'd have to get by the Eff ton of missals we would shoot at them that can basically hit anything we shoot at within inches. If they got by that they'd have to get past all the 'gangstas' in California or the pissed off Yankees fans on the East Coast (LOL).

we have an advantage of having an all volunteer Military which if I remember some research I did quite some time ago correctly is far more effective than 'drafted' army's.

That's all assuming it would not be a nuclear war, which of course it would almost have to be. If that's the case, we all lose.

Anyway, I guess we'll just disagree on this one and pray we never have to find out for sure.

If we had another world war, that would solve pretty much everything....

oh. Not to mention the fact that if China/Russia teamed up to attack us we'd have (at a minimum) Israel, England, France, Canada (pfft), Japan, South Korea, and Australia fighting with us.

Plus I don't think we are as unorganized and moronic as you think. Why do other countries (NATO, ect) come to us for military advice when they want to attack something.

Yeah, we will have to disagree on this one, but everything you have said leads to prove my statement of paper lions. Why are we spending so much and producing less? Russia and China has just as good, maybe better technology, and they spend so much less. Makes you wonder what we are spending it on? Not to mention both Russia and China can launch missiles into space which means they can hit any target on planet Earth. And China can mobilize the worlds largest army, which yes we can bomb, but doing so would just provoke them into a nuclear attack. And you honestly believe our armies are better organized than they are? I highly doubt that. See the problem is you have been told so many lies over the year about how great the US is that you have begun to believe it. We are the leading assholes in the toilet bowl we call the world. There is nothing great about this country. Maybe at one time there was, but now everyone is on the same level. Every country has compromised that which at one time made them something better. We would be annihilated by Russia and China. It would be like Alexander marching to the ocean. Who would stop them? People seem to forget what Hitler did with such a small army. Imagine the biggest army in the history of the world sweeping across the lands with the backing of every country that see the USA as a horrible parasite on the globe. Do you know how many countries hate us? Not to mention China has the best earth to orbit missile, and Russia has the strongest nuclear weapon ever made.

I have no idea why the other countries believe the hype. The USA is practically owned by other countries around the world. We owe so many people money. And honestly, I think people do not realize what can be done with economic warfare. We are seriously at risk now. There is the ability to crush America without even firing a shot. As always this is just my opinion, but we have grown ignorant, overconfident, and weak. If I was someone looking to attack the USA the time would be now.

    ****Update*****

U.S. congressional leaders have agreed on a budget deal to fund the U.S. government for the rest of the fiscal year, just before a midnight deadline.

House Majority Leader John Boehner announced late Friday that senate and White House negotiators also agreed on a short-term measure to prevent a government shutdown.

He said lawmakers will vote sometime next week on a full 2011 budget bill.

These developments unfolded as the Obama administration readied hundreds of thousands of furlough notices for federal workers anticipating a government shutdown at midnight Friday, Washington time. President Barack Obama spoke to Senate Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid and John Boehner in separate phone calls Friday about the budget standoff. He also postponed his scheduled trip to the midwestern state of Indiana.

If leaders cannot agree on a 2011 budget, many government services will be disrupted.

Please.. The politicians are more fu*ked up then we are. Good point about the US still ruling the skies, because this is pretty much how a future war is going to be won. We (the military) would need to rely heavily on the Air Force to destroy The Dong Feng 21 missile launch sites, and blowing up their dams---mainly the Three Gorges Dam. If stuff hots the fan then we drop the 20,000 nukes on them and hope are shield takes out there 20 nukes.
